City-Wide Garbage Update

The City of Eldora would like to address any confusion resulting from the recent Time Citizen article regarding the upcoming city-wide garbage service, which will officially begin on July 1, 2025.

Our goal is to provide accurate and transparent information to ensure all residents are well-informed and prepared for this transition. Over the past year, the City of Eldora has been diligently working on implementing a city-wide garbage service. As part of our ongoing blight initiative and in alignment with services offered by surrounding Hardin County towns, we believe this is a necessary step to enhance our community.

This service will be subcontracted to a waste removal provider, while the City of Eldora will manage customer service and billing. The garbage collection contract is available to view here.

Below are some key details regarding the service:

• Each household will receive a 95-gallon tote with a lid, and garbage will be picked up weekly. Exemption: Commercial and Multi-Family Rentals

• Special accommodations will be available if requested by an elderly and/or otherwise disabled resident

• Customer service inquiries will be handled directly by City staff.

• The City will continue to offer two city-wide clean-up events per year.

• The initial estimated monthly cost for garbage service will not exceed $16 per household.

As we approach the implementation date, additional information will be included with monthly water bills to ensure every household is well-prepared for the transition.

For any questions or concerns, residents are encouraged to contact City Hall at 641-939-2393.

We appreciate the community’s support as we take this important step in making Eldora an even better place to live.
